The Powell Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking enthusiastic postdoctoral scientists to lead multidisciplinary projects at the interface of DNA repair and translational cancer research. The major theme of our work relates to how DNA repair processes are disrupted in human cancers and how this can be exploited therapeutically. We have a long-standing focus on homologous recombination, a pathway often dysregulated in human cancers; our research centers on improving our understanding of how homologous recombination executes its biological functions, including its role in replication-coupled repair.  Furthermore, we have interest in the backup pathways needed to maintain cellular viability in the absence of recombination, with the ultimate goal of laying a foundation for the development of mechanism-inspired cancer therapeutics. Representative publications include Nature volume 621, p129–137 (2023); Nature volume 601, p268–273 (2022); Molecular Cell Biology volume 42, e00524-21 (2022).

Located in the heart of Manhattan, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer offers a vibrant research environment. The city itself is a hub of innovation, providing countless opportunities for networking, collaboration, and exposure to cutting-edge research. We actively collaborate with leading experts from nearby institutions such as Weill Cornell, Rockefeller University, New York University, and the New York Genome Center. By working closely with specialists in cancer genomics, clinical/translational research, and biomarker development, you will have the opportunity to expand your expertise and research capabilities.

Candidates should hold (or soon be completing) a PhD degree in molecular or cancer biology, biochemistry or similar. The ideal candidate will have experience in areas of cellular and/or molecular biology and the DNA damage response. Prior experience with animal models is beneficial but not required. Interested applicants should send PDF copies of their CV with a cover letter stating their current and future research interests, a description of previous research experience and accomplishments, and expected availability date in addition to contact details for three references to [email protected] or [email protected].
